Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur, jenis, dan fungsi onomatope dalam webtoon komik serial Otenba karya Dihocchi. Onomatope merupakan tiruan bunyi yang berfungsi untuk merepresentasikan suara tertentu, baik dari manusia, hewan, alam, maupun benda. Dalam konteks webtoon, onomatope memainkan peran penting dalam memperkuat narasi visual dan memperjelas ekspresi atau suasana cerita. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif pendekatan deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa teknik baca, teknik menandai, teknik catat, dan teknik simpulan terhadap 85 episode webtoon Otenba yang dirilis pada tahun 2023. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa onomatope dalam webtoon Otenba didominasi oleh struktur monosilabel (satu suku kata) dan jenis tiruan bunyi manusia. Fungsi onomatope yang paling menonjol adalah membentuk nama perbuatan yang dilakukan oleh hewan atau manusia. Onomatope seperti DEG!, BLAARR!, dan HOSHH tidak hanya memperkuat suasana, tetapi juga memberikan efek emosional yang kuat kepada pembaca. Penggunaan huruf kapital, panjang-pendeknya kata, serta pengulangan bunyi juga menjadi indikator kekuatan intensitas suatu peristiwa. Penelitian ini berhasil menemukan sebanyak 100 data onomatope yang menjadi objek analisis. Sumber data tersebut diambil secara khusus dari teks-teks onomatope yang terdapat di luar gelembung percakapan dalam webtoon Otenba karya Dihocchi. Dari penelitian ini, disimpulkan bahwa onomatope dalam webtoon tidak sekadar unsur pelengkap, melainkan memiliki fungsi semantik dan stilistika yang memperkaya pengalaman membaca. Dengan demikian, pemahaman terhadap onomatope dapat meningkatkan literasi visual dan linguistik, khususnya dalam karya sastra digital seperti webtoon. Kata kunci: onomatope, webtoon, Otenba, struktur, jenis, fungsi. ***** This study aims to describe the structure, types, and functions of onomatopoeia in the webtoon comic series Otenba by Dihocchi. Onomatopoeia is an imitation of sound that functions to represent certain sounds, whether from humans, animals, nature, or objects. In the context of webtoons, onomatopoeia plays an important role in strengthening visual narratives and clarifying the expression or atmosphere of the story. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of reading, listening, and taking notes on 85 episodes of the Otenba webtoon released in 2023. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques included reading, marking, note-taking, and summarizing 85 episodes of the Otenba webtoon released in 2023. The results show that onomatopoeia in the Otenba webtoon are dominated by monosyllabic structures (one syllable) and types of imitation of human sounds. The most prominent function of onomatopoeia is to form the names of actions carried out by animals or humans. Onomatopoeia such as DEG!, BLAARR!, and HOSHH not only strengthen the atmosphere but also provide a strong emotional effect on the reader. The use of capital letters, the length of words, and repetition of sounds also serve as indicators of the strength and intensity of an event. This research successfully identified 100 onomatopoeic data points for analysis. The data sources were drawn specifically from onomatopoeic texts found outside of the conversation bubbles in Dihocchi's webtoon Otenba. This study concludes that onomatopoeia in webtoons is not merely a complementary element, but rather has semantic and stylistic functions that enrich the reading experience. Therefore, understanding onomatopoeia can improve visual and linguistic literacy, particularly in digital literary works like webtoons.
