Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan utama. Pertama, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana perubahan praktik tradisi sesajen berlangsung di Desa Kajen. Kedua, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi perubahan praktik tradisi sesajen, baik yang berasal dari internal masyarakat maupun dari faktor eksternal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data pada penelitian ini diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi dan studi literatur. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 8 informan kunci dan 2 informan triangulasi. Informan kunci mencakup 1 Kepala Desa Kajen, 2 Tokoh Agama, 2 Tokoh Masyarakat, dan 3 Anak Muda di Desa Kajen. Sementara itu, informan triangulasi terdiri dari 2 orang warga Desa Kajen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik tradisi sesajen di Desa Kajen mengalami perubahan bentuk, makna, dan cara pelaksanaan. Awalnya, tradisi ini merupakan warisan leluhur yang berfokus pada kepercayaan mistis, namun kini telah bertransformasi menjadi bentuk penghormatan dan ekspresi syukur kepada Tuhan. Pergeseran ini dipicu oleh beberapa faktor, termasuk meninggalnya tokoh adat dan perubahan pola pikir masyarakat seiring dengan perkembangan zaman. Selain itu, masuknya pengaruh ajaran Islam dalam bentuk pemahaman nilai tauhid yang mendorong penyesuaian simbol dan makna ritual. Dalam konteks ini, tokoh agama tidak melarang praktik sesajen, melainkan membiarkannya tetap dijalankan selama dimaknai sebagai simbol budaya dan ungkapan rasa syukur kepada Tuhan. Penyesuaian tersebut tampak pada penggantian mantra-mantra tradisional dengan doa-doa Islam, serta perubahan pemaknaan sesajen dari persembahan kepada makhluk gaib menjadi bagian dari tradisi sosial budaya masyarakat. Modernisasi turut mempengaruhi sikap generasi muda, yang menjadi lebih kritis dan rasional terhadap pelaksanaan tradisi. Perubahan ini menegaskan bahwa tradisi bukanlah entitas yang statis, melainkan sesuatu yang terus beradaptasi dan bertransformasi sesuai dengan konteks sosial dan keagamaan. Hal ini sejalan dengan pandangan Edwards Shils mengenai dinamika tradisi dan kemampuannya untuk bertahan melalui reinterpretasi makna. ***** This study has two main objectives. First, this study aims to examine how changes in the tradition of offering rituals have taken place in Kajen Village. Second, this study aims to identify the factors that influence changes in the tradition of offering rituals, both those originating from within the community and from external factors. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The data in this study were obtained through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The subjects of this study consisted of eight key informants and two triangulation informants. The key informants included one Kajen Village Head, two religious leaders, two community leaders, and three young people in Kajen Village. Meanwhile, the triangulation informants consisted of two Kajen Village residents. The results of the study show that the practice of traditional offerings in Kajen Village has undergone changes in form, meaning, and implementation. Initially, this tradition was an ancestral heritage that focused on mystical beliefs, but now it has transformed into a form of respect and expression of gratitude to God. This shift was triggered by several factors, including the death of traditional leaders and changes in the community's mindset in line with the times. In addition, the influence of Islamic teachings in the form of an understanding of the value of monotheism has encouraged adjustments to the symbols and meanings of the ritual. In this context, religious leaders do not prohibit the practice of offerings, but allow it to continue as long as it is interpreted as a cultural symbol and an expression of gratitude to God. This adjustment is evident in the replacement of traditional mantras with Islamic prayers, as well as the change in the meaning of offerings from offerings to supernatural beings to part of the socio-cultural traditions of the community. Modernization has also influenced the attitudes of the younger generation, who have become more critical and rational towards the implementation of traditions. This change confirms that tradition is not a static entity, but something that continues to adapt and transform in accordance with the social and religious context. This is in line with Edwards Shils' view of the dynamics of tradition and its ability to survive through reinterpretation of meaning.
