Abstract
***** Several factors that cause challenges in determining careers for students are family conditions, especially regarding the social support provided by their parents in determining their careers. This study aims to examine the relationship of parental support on the career orientation of high school students in South Jakarta. The respondents in this study consisted of 401 eleventh-grade students from 10 schools in each subdistrict in the South Jakarta area. The measurement tools used in this study were the Protean Career Orientation to measure the level of students' career orientation and the Career-Related Parent Support Scale to measure the support students felt from their parents. The results of the hypothesis test using Kendall’s Tau-b analysis showed a significance value of 0.000, which is less than 0.005 (p<0.005), indicating that the variable of parental support has a positive effect, or the hypothesis is accepted. This result means that the higher the parental support, the higher or clearer the students' career orientation level. In addition, the coefficient of determination or R square (R2) resulted in 0.137. This indicates that parental support affects career orientation by 13.7%, with the remainder being factors not examined in this study. This finding states that although low, parental support remains one of the factors that have an impact on the formation of students' career orientation.
