Abstract

***** This study aims to analyze the influence of career decision-making self-efficacy and family Support on career decision-making difficulties among adolescents in high school (SMA), vocational high school (SMK), and Islamic high school (MAN). The background of the study is based on the phenomenon of the still high level of confusion among adolescents in determining career choices, which impacts low career readiness and inaccurate planning for education and future employment. This study uses a quantitative explanatory approach with a survey method. The research subjects consisted of 300 12th-grade students from MAN 16 West Jakarta, SMKN 26 East Jakarta, and SMAN 92 North Jakarta in the 2024–2025 academic year, selected using a disproportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using three instruments, namely the Career Decision- Making Self-efficacy Short Form (CDMSE-SF), the Support , Interference , and Lack of Engagement (SIL) Scale to measure family Support , and the Career Decision-Making Difficulties Questionnaire (CDDQ). The research model testing was conducted using a Structural Equation Modeling approach based on Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) which subsequently produced empirical findings regarding the relationship between variables in this study. The results showed that career decision-making self-efficacy had a negative and significant effect on adolescent career decision-making difficulties, with a path coefficient value of 0.236, t-statistic = 3.713, and p-value = 0.000. The results of this analysis indicate that the higher the self-efficacy possessed by adolescents, the lower the level of difficulty experienced in determining career choices. Conversely, family Support did not show a significant direct effect on career decision-making difficulties, with a coefficient value of 0.140, t-statistic = 1.657, and p-value = 0.098. Simultaneously, self-efficacy and family Support were only able to explain a small portion of the variation in career decision-making difficulties, with an R² value of 0.086 and an adjusted R² of 0.080. This indicates that the two variables together explain 8.6% of the variation in career decision-making difficulties, while the remaining 91.4% is influenced by factors outside the research model. The analysis indicates that internal factors, such as self-efficacy, play a more dominant role than external factors in helping adolescents navigate the career decision-making process. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of strengthening self- efficacy through systematic and ongoing career guidance and counseling services in schools.
