Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan makna puisi Willkommen und Abschied karya Johann Wolfgang von Goethe melalui pendekatan semiotik Riffaterre yang meliputi pembacaan heuristik, ketidaklangsungan ekspresi, pembacaan hermeneutik, serta penentuan matriks, model, varian, dan hipogram. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa studi dokumen dan analisis data berdasarkan teori semiotika Michael Riffaterre. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah puisi Willkommen und Abschied, dengan data berupa bagian-bagian puisi, baik berupa baris, bait, maupun keseluruhan puisi tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembacaan heuristik menceritakan perjalanan seseorang pada malam hari untuk menemui kekasihnya. Ketidaklangsungan ekspresi ditunjukkan melalui penggantian arti berupa metafora, personifikasi, metonimia, dan sinekdoke; penyimpangan arti melalui ambiguitas; serta penciptaan arti melalui rima Kreuzreim dan enjambemen. Hasil pembacaan hermeneutik menunjukkan bahwa puisi ini merepresentasikan cinta sebagai pengalaman yang rumit ditandai oleh luapan perasaan dan spontanitas, sehingga mencerminkan ciri khas Sturm und Drang. Matriks puisi berupa Liebe, modelnya berupa kata Herz sedangkan variannya berupa gagasan pendukung yang tersebar di setiap bait puisi. Hipogram potensial puisi ini sama dengan matriks, yaitu Liebe, sementara hipogram aktualnya adalah puisi Heidenröslein. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa puisi ini memaknai cinta sebagai pengalaman emosional yang kompleks, yang mencakup perjalanan perasaan dari rindu, kebahagiaan saat pertemuan, hingga kesedihan akibat perpisahan. This study aims to describe the meaning of the poem Willkommen und Abschied by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe through Michael Riffaterre’s semiotic approach, which includes heuristic reading, indirect expression, hermeneutic reading, and the identification of matrix, model, variants, and hypogram. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method using document study as the data collection technique, with data analysis based on Michael Riffaterre’s semiotic theory. The data source of this study is the poem Willkommen und Abschied, consisting of lines, stanzas, and the poem as a whole. The findings show that the heuristic reading depicts a person’s night journey to meet his beloved. Indirect expression is revealed through meaning substitution in the form of metaphor, personification, metonymy, and synecdoche; meaning deviation through ambiguity; and meaning creation through Kreuzreim rhyme and enjambment. The hermeneutic reading indicates that the poem represents love as a complex experience marked by emotional outbursts and spontaneity, reflecting the characteristics of the Sturm und Drang movement. The matrix of the poem is Liebe, the model is the word Herz, and the variants are supporting ideas distributed across each stanza. The potential hypogram is identical to the matrix, namely Liebe, while the actual hypogram is the poem Heidenröslein. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the poem interprets love as a complex emotional experience, encompassing a journey of feelings from longing, to happiness at reunion, and finally to sadness due to separation.
