Abstract
***** Moving to a different cultural environment can lead to acculturative stress among students, particularly when they must adjust to new languages, social norms, and educational settings. This study aimed to describe the acculturative stress experienced by students at Sekolah Indonesia Bangkok. The research employed a mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential design. The quantitative phase involved administering the Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students (ASSIS) to 40 junior and senior high school students. The qualitative phase was conducted through in-depth interviews with five students and one school counselor to further explain the quantitative findings. The results indicated that students’ acculturative stress was in the moderately high category, with a mean score of 85.88. Qualitative findings showed that acculturative stress was related to language adjustment, social habits, food differences, and homesickness. However, several ASSIS dimensions, such as perceived discrimination and fear, were not reflected in the qualitative findings of this study.
