Abstract

The NBA playoffs have a higher match intensity than the regular season, high minutes played and player performance demands as measured by the player impact estimate (PIE) are thought to contribute to the risk of athlete injury. This study is based on the concept of workload and the theory of the relationship between workload and injury through the Acute:Chronic Workload Ratio (ACWR) approach. The study uses a quantitative approach with an associative method. The data used are secondary data obtained through documentation and indirect observation from official NBA statistics and player injury reports during the 2025 NBA Playoffs. The study sample consisted of 219 NBA players who met the research criteria. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics, normality tests, correlation tests, and multiple linear regression. The results showed that minutes played had a positive and significant relationship with athlete injuries (ρ= 0.159; Sig.= 0.019), while PIE did not have a significant relationship with athlete injuries (ρ= 0.060; Sig.= 0.377). Simultaneously, minutes played and PIE were significantly related to athlete injuries (F= 3.824; Sig.= 0.023), although the model contribution was relatively very low (R²= 0.034). These findings indicate that playing duration is a more influential factor on injury risk than player performance as measured by PIE.
