Abstract
***** High internet penetration in the Jabodetabek area is paradoxically accompanied by increased polarization and low public civility due to an inability to accept different perspectives. This study aims to examine the role of Intellectual Humility (IH) and Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) on Receptiveness to Opposing Views (RTOV). Utilizing a quantitative multiple linear regression approach, data was collected via online questionnaires from 408 adult respondents residing in Jabodetabek. The analysis reveals that Intellectual Humility and Social Dominance Orientation simultaneously predict 32,1% of the variance in Receptiveness to Opposing Views. Partially, Social Dominance Orientation acts as the primary negative predictor with a massive effective contribution of 28,19%, while Intellectual Humility only contributes a minor 3,96% positively. Furthermore, demographic findings indicate that Intellectual Humility's function vanishes and is completely overshadowed by Social Dominance Orientation among rural populations. In conclusion, resistance to opposing views is driven more by the motivation to maintain group hierarchy than cognitive bias, highlighting that interventions against polarization must focus on dismantling group ego.
