Abstract
***** This study aims to determine the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach in improving learning outcomes and student activeness in social studies subjects for grade VII at SMP Negeri 213 Jakarta. The research is motivated by the low student learning outcomes, as seen from the average Mid-Semester Assessment (ATS) score of 58.18, which is still below the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKTP) of 80. The method used is classroom action research (CAR) with the Kemmis and McTaggart model conducted in three cycles, involving 35 students from class VII-F as subjects. The results showed that the implementation of CTL through the "Mini Market" simulation in cycle I, status card games and roleplay in cycle II, and learning videos and mind mapping in cycle III, proved to improve student learning outcomes. The average score increased from 58.18 (pre-cycle) to 67.57 (cycle I), 78.00 (cycle II), and 86.14 (cycle III). The percentage of mastery also increased from 25.71% to 62.86%, and reached 85.71% in cycle III, exceeding the success indicator of a minimum of 80%. In addition, student activeness in the aspects of asking, answering, expressing opinions, and cooperating also showed an increasing trend from cycle I to cycle III. Thus, the CTL approach is effective in improving learning outcomes and student activeness in social studies subjects for grade VII at SMP Negeri 213 Jakarta.
