Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kepedulian sosial antara siswa pembaca dan bukan pembaca Webtoon Pupus Putus Sekolah, serta menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mendasari kondisi tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan mixed methods dengan desain sequential explanatory, yang menggabungkan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 355 siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 20 Bekasi, dengan sampel penelitian berjumlah 141 siswa, terdiri atas 30 siswa kelompok pembaca dan 111 siswa kelompok bukan pembaca Webtoon, menggunakan instrumen skala kepedulian sosial. Berdasarkan hasil uji normalitas, diketahui bahwa data tidak berdistribusi normal, sehingga pengujian hipotesis dilakukan menggunakan uji non-parametrik Mann-Whitney U Test. Hasil analisis menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan kepedulian sosial antara kedua kelompok, dengan nilai Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,702 (> 0,05). Data kualitatif dari wawancara terhadap lima informan untuk menggali empat indikator kepedulian sosial, yaitu empati, sikap tolong-menolong, menghargai sesama, dan tanggung jawab sosial menunjukkan bahwa keluarga menjadi faktor paling dominan dalam membentuk kepedulian sosial pada kedua kelompok siswa, sementara media digital termasuk Webtoon berperan sebagai faktor pendukung yang memperkuat nilai-nilai yang telah terbentuk. Temuan ini memperkuat hasil statistik yang tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan antara kedua kelompok siswa.*****This study aims to determine the differences in social concern between students who read and those who do not read the webtoon Pupus Putus Sekolah, as well as to analyze the factors underlying these differences. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The study population consisted of 355 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Bekasi, with a sample of 141 students comprising 30 students in the reader group and 111 students in the non-reader group using a social concern scale as the research instrument. Based on the results of the normality test, it was found that the data were not normally distributed; therefore, hypothesis testing was conducted using the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U Test. The analysis results showed no significant difference in social concern between the two groups, with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.702 (> 0.05). Qualitative data obtained through interviews with five informants, exploring four indicators of social concern, namely empathy, helping behavior, respect for others, and social responsibility, revealed that family was the most dominant factor in shaping students' social concern in both groups, while digital media, including Webtoons, served as a supporting factor that reinforced values already formed. These findings reinforce the statistical results, which showed no significant difference between the two sample groups.
