Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kontribusi pembelajaran Komunikasi antar budaya terhadap sikap toleransi beragama mahasiswa PAI FISH UNJ. Mata kuliah ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai pemenuhan kurikulum akademik, tetapi juga menjadi ruang transformasi nilai yang dapat membentuk kualitas sikap inklusif mahasiswa sebagai calon pendidik. Berbagai aktivitas pembelajaran seperti diskusi manajemen persepsi, metode experiential learning, kunjungan lapangan ke majelis atau komunitas masyarakat, serta proyek sosial merupakan sarana internalisasi nilai yang secara konsisten dilakukan untuk membangun karakter mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Informan dalam penelitian ini ditentukan melalui teknik purposive sampling dengan melibatkan sebelas mahasiswa PAI angkatan 2022 dan 2023 sebagai informan utama, serta satu dosen pengampu mata kuliah komunikasi antar budaya sebagai informan pendukung. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran komunikasi antar budaya berperan mendalam sebagai ruang dialektika yang mentransformasi kesadaran toleransi beragama mahasiswa PAI FISH UNJ. Perubahan ini terbentuk melalui proses pergeseran paradigma mahasiswa yang semula eksklusif menjadi lebih inklusif melalui interaksi dan internalisasi nilai keberagaman. Melalui proses pembelajaran tersebut, mahasiswa dapat meningkatkan kontrol diri sehingga mendorong terbentuknya sikap toleransi yang utuh yang ditandai oleh adanya aspek penerimaan, penghargaan, serta kebebasan sebagaimana dikemukakan oleh teori UNESCO dan Michael Walzer. Dengan demikian, mata kuliah komunikasi antar budaya tidak hanya berperan sebagai transfer pengetahuan, tetapi juga sebagai sarana pembentukan kontrol diri yang mendorong terciptanya sikap toleransi beragama yang lebih baik di lingkungan mahasiswa PAI. ***** This study aims to describe the contribution of Intercultural Communication courses to enhancing religious tolerance among Islamic Education students at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, UNJ. This course not only serves to fulfill academic curriculum requirements but also functions as a space for values transformation that can shape students’ inclusive attitudes as future educators. Various learning activities, such as perception management discussions, experiential learning methods, field visits to community organizations or groups, and social projects, serve as means of instilling values that are consistently implemented to build students’ character. This study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive methods. The informants in this study were selected using purposive sampling, involving eleven Islamic Education students from the 2022 and 2023 cohorts as primary informants, as well as one instructor of the Intercultural Communication course as a supporting informant. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of the study indicate that intercultural communication education plays a profound role as a space for dialectical exchange that transforms the awareness of religious tolerance among Islamic Education students at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, UNJ. This change occurs through a process in which students’ perspectives shift from an exclusive to a more inclusive mindset through interaction and the internalization of the value of diversity. Through this learning process, students can improve their self-control, thereby fostering a comprehensive attitude of tolerance characterized by acceptance, respect, and freedom, as outlined in the theories of UNESCO and Michael Walzer. Thus, the intercultural communication course serves not only to transfer knowledge, but also as a means of fostering self-control, which promotes greater religious tolerance among PAI students.
