Abstract

***** Increasingly complex environmental problems require strengthening environmental literacy as one of the essential competencies in 21st-century education. However, the level of environmental literacy among students in Indonesia remains relatively low, particularly in terms of cognitive knowledge and environmentally responsible behavior. As an effort to address this issue, this study implemented the Problem Based Blended Learning (PBBL) model. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the PBBL model on senior high school students' environmental literacy in the topic of environmental change. The study employed a quasi experimental method using a Posttest Only Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 60 tenth-grade students from SMA Negeri 31 Jakarta selected through simple random sampling. The study was conducted during the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected using a multiple-choice test, an environmental literacy questionnaire, and an observation sheet to assess the implementation of the learning model. The results of the hypothesis testing using an Independent Samples t-test showed a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the PBBL model had a significant effect on students' environmental literacy. The implementation of the PBBL model can serve as an alternative instructional approach to support the development of students' environmental literacy in the topic of environmental change. Future studies are recommended to investigate the implementation of the Problem-Based Blended Learning (PBBL) model using different learning materials or instructional media to further explore its effectiveness in enhancing students' environmental literacy.
