Abstract

****** The development of tourism villages is expected not only to spur economic growth but also to maintain ecological stability and social well-being. The village of Girikarto in Gunungkidul Regency is undergoing a massive transition as a hub for coastal tourism, thus requiring a holistic evaluation of its governance. This study aims to analyze the suitability of developing the Gesing Wonderland tourism destination based on local potential through an evaluation of the 3A Aspects (Accessibility, Amenities, and Attractions), the POSE Marketing Strategy (Paid Media, Owned Media, Social Media, and Endorsers), Human Resource (HR) Capacity, and the Principles of Sustainable Tourism. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial analysis modeling involving 58 respondents. The results showed a Total Tourism Suitability Index (IKW) of 77.60 percent, categorized as “Suitable” (S2). Analyzed by variables, the POSE Marketing Strategy recorded the highest achievement (82.14%), supported by organic social media virality. Conversely, the Sustainable Tourism Principles recorded the lowest score (73.08%) due to a lack of contribution to regional income (Pro-Growth) and poor integration of local cultural wisdom preservation (Pro-Nationalism), alongside accessibility which is still hampered by narrow roads and a lack of directional signs. This study recommends strengthening regulations regarding revenue sharing, improving accessibility infrastructure, reintegrating local cultural wisdom into tourism products, and adding a disaster risk variable for future studies given the high vulnerability of the coastal area.
