Abstract

***** This study aims to examine the effect of cognitive emotion regulation and perceived social support on the tendency of sadfishing among early adulthood. The results of hypothesis testing showed that the nine strategies of cognitive emotion regulation and perceived social support simultaneously had a significant effect on the tendency of sadfishing, with an effective contribution of 29.6%. Partially, three cognitive emotion regulation strategies showed a significant effect, with the blaming others strategy making the largest contribution (19.01%), followed by positive refocusing (5.73%), and refocus on planning, which played a role in reducing the tendency of sadfishing (-1.48%). Conversely, the other six strategies and the perceived social support variable showed no significant effect. The conclusion of this study indicates that the tendency of sadfishing behavior in early adulthood is predominantly driven by internal cognitive factors in processing problems, especially the tendency to blame others, rather than the lack of real-world social support. Keywords: Sadfishing, Cognitive Emotion Regulation, Perceived Social Support, Early Adulthood.
