Abstract
***** This study aims to examine the effect of interparental conflict on attitudes toward marriage among young adults in Jakarta. The decline in marriage rates in Indonesia has occurred in recent years as young people increasingly tend to delay marriage. Jakarta is one of the regions exhibiting this trend. The decision to delay marriage is closely related to individuals’ views on the institution of marriage, which are believed to be influenced by conflict between parents. This study employs a quantitative approach involving 221 respondents aged 20–30 years who are unmarried and reside in Jakarta. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Children’s Perception of Interparental Conflict (CPIC) and the Marital Attitude Scale (MAS). The results of simple linear regression analysis indicate that interparental conflict has a significant negative effect on attitudes toward marriage among young adults in Jakarta, with a contribution of 10.5% (R-squared = 0.105). These findings confirm that the higher an individual’s level of interparental conflict, the more negative their attitude toward marriage.
