Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran mediasi social withdrawal dalam hubungan antara persepsi kepadatan lingkungan perkotaan dan informal social control pada masyarakat metropolitan Jabodetabek. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 237 masyarakat metropolitan Jabodetabek berusia 18–40 tahun. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan instrumen Persepsi Kepadatan Lingkungan Perkotaan berdasarkan konsep perceived crowding dari Vaske dan Shelby, Social Avoidance and Distress Scale (SADS) untuk mengukur variabel social withdrawal, serta instrumen Informal social control yang dikembangkan oleh Sampson et al. untuk mengukur variabel informal social control. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji mediasi dengan bantuan perangkat lunak Jamovi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi kepadatan lingkungan perkotaan tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap social withdrawal (β = 0,145; p = 0,467), informal social control (β = -0,060; p = 0,639), maupun secara tidak langsung melalui social withdrawal sebagai mediator (indirect effect = 0,00281; p = 0,703). Selain itu, social withdrawal juga tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap informal social control (β = 0,019; p = 0,758). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa social withdrawal tidak berperan sebagai mediator dalam hubungan antara persepsi kepadatan lingkungan perkotaan dan informal social control pada masyarakat metropolitan Jabodetabek. ***** This study aimed to examine the mediating role of social withdrawal in the relationship between perceived urban environmental density and informal social control among metropolitan communities in Jabodetabek. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The participants consisted of 237 metropolitan residents of Jabodetabek aged 18–40 years. Data were collected using an Urban Environmental Density Perception instrument based on Vaske and Shelby’s perceived crowding concept, the Social Avoidance and Distress Scale (SADS) to measure social withdrawal, and the Informal social control instrument developed by Sampson et al. to measure informal social control. Data were analyzed using mediation analysis with the assistance of Jamovi software. The results showed that perceived urban environmental density did not significantly affect social withdrawal (β = 0.145; p = .467), informal social control (β = -0.060; p = .639), or indirectly through social withdrawal as a mediator (indirect effect = 0.00281; p = .703). In addition, social withdrawal did not significantly affect informal social control (β = 0.019; p = .758). These findings indicate that social withdrawal does not mediate the relationship between perceived urban environmental density and informal social control among metropolitan communities in Jabodetabek.
