Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi digital telah mengubah praktik perjudian menjadi semakin mudah diakses melalui berbagai platform daring. Judi slot online, khususnya yang disediakan oleh Pragmatic Play, tidak lagi dipahami hanya sebagai bentuk perjudian, tetapi telah berkembang menjadi praktik sosial yang dipengaruhi oleh budaya digital, lingkungan sosial, serta kemudahan akses terhadap teknologi dan layanan keuangan digital. Fenomena tersebut semakin kompleks ketika sebagian pemain memanfaatkan pinjaman online sebagai sumber pembiayaan untuk mempertahankan aktivitas perjudian, yang pada akhirnya berpotensi memunculkan praktik gagal bayar (galbay) serta perubahan cara pandang terhadap kewajiban finansial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus terhadap lima pemuda Kampung Beting, Jakarta Utara. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dokumentasi, serta didukung data survei sebagai pelengkap. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif-analitis dengan teknik triangulasi serta menggunakan perspektif Sociology of Gambling Herbert A. Bloch yang diperkaya dengan pendekatan Social Anthropology of Gambling Rebecca Cassidy. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan informan dalam judi slot online berawal dari pengaruh lingkungan sosial, media digital, dan agresivitas promosi perjudian yang kemudian diperkuat oleh fitur-fitur permainan Pragmatic Play. Kekalahan yang dialami mendorong penggunaan pinjaman online sebagai sumber modal untuk mempertahankan aktivitas perjudian sehingga membentuk siklus instabilitas finansial. Kondisi tersebut kemudian berkembang menjadi proses normalisasi gagal bayar (galbay), pembentukan identitas korban, serta tindakan retaliasi terhadap sistem pinjaman online. ***** The rapid development of digital technology has transformed gambling practices by making them increasingly accessible through various online platforms. Online slot gambling, particularly games provided by Pragmatic Play, is no longer understood merely as a form of gambling but has evolved into a social practice shaped by digital culture, social environments, and the accessibility of digital technology and financial services. This phenomenon becomes increasingly complex when some players utilize online loans as a source of capital to sustain their gambling activities, which subsequently leads to online loan defaults (galbay) and changes in perceptions toward financial obligations. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method involving five young adults in Kampung Beting, North Jakarta. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and supported by survey data as complementary information. Data were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical approach with triangulation techniques. The study was guided by Herbert A. Bloch's Sociology of Gambling perspective and enriched by Rebecca Cassidy's Social Anthropology of Gambling approach. The findings reveal that the participants' involvement in online slot gambling originated from the influence of their social environment, digital media, and the aggressive promotion of online gambling, which was further reinforced by the game features offered by Pragmatic Play. Financial losses encouraged participants to use online loans as gambling capital, creating a cycle of financial instability. Over time, this condition developed into the normalization of online loan default (galbay), the construction of a victim identity, and retaliatory actions against the online lending system.
