Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki tiga tujuan utama. Pertama, untuk mendeskripsikan aktivitas fangirling yang dilakukan penggemar perempuan dalam menyukai grup K-pop. Kedua, untuk mendeskripsikan pemaknaan penggemar perempuan terhadap representasi fluiditas gender dalam K-Pop. Ketiga, untuk mendeskripsikan analisis pemaknaan tersebut dalam perspektif performativitas gender Judith Butler. Penelitian ini menggunakkan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari lima perempuan penggemar K-pop di wilayah Jakarta Timur yang aktif melakukan berbagai aktivitas dalam mendukung idola, serta tiga informan tambahan sebagai triangulasi data yang terdiri dari anggota keluarga dan kerabat. Lokasi penelitian ini dilakukan di Jakarta Timur. Penelitian ini dimulai sejak Januari hingga Agustus 2024. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa representasi fluiditas gender dalam K-Pop dimaknai sebagai perpaduan karakteristik maskulinitas dan feminitas yang tidak lagi dipandang sebagai dua hal yang terpisah. Pemaknaan tersebut kemudian diterima secara aktif melalui proses negosiasi dengan nilai-nilai gender yang berkembang di masyarakat. Bentuk maskulinitas dan femininitas ideal yang dimaknai oleh penggemar tidak bersifat tunggal, melainkan menunjukkan perpaduan antara nilai-nilai tradisional dan karakteristik yang lebih fleksibel. Proses ini turut membentuk identitas gender penggemar yang terwujud dalam praktik sehari-hari; mulai dari gaya berpakaian, penggunaan riasan, perawatan diri, pembentukan manner, hingga cara berinteraksi dengan orang lain. Dalam perspektif Judith Butler, praktik-praktik tersebut merupakan bentuk performativitas gender yang membentuk presentasi diri sebagai perempuan. Interpretation of Gender Identity among K-pop Fans in the Context of Gender Fluidity (A Case Study of Five Female K-pop Fans in East Jakarta), Thesis. Jakarta: Sociology Education Study Program, Faculty of Social Science and Law, Jakarta State University, 2026. This study has three main objectives. First, to describe the fangirling activities undertaken by female fans in their engagement with K-pop groups. Second, to examine how female fans interpret the representation of gender fluidity in K-pop. Third, to analyze these interpretations from the perspective of Judith Butler's theory of gender performativity. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. The research data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The subjects in this study consist of five female K-pop fans in the East Jakarta area who actively engage in various activities to support their idols, as well as three additional informants for data triangulation consisting of family members and relatives. The research was conducted in East Jakarta from January to August 2024. The results of this study indicate that the representation of gender fluidity in K-pop is interpreted as a combination of masculine and feminine characteristics that are no longer perceived as two separate categories. This interpretation is actively accepted through a process of negotiation with the gender values prevailing within society. The ideal forms of masculinity and femininity constructed by the fans are not singular; rather, they reflect a combination of traditional gender values and more flexible characteristics. This process also contributes to the construction of the fans' gender identities, which are manifested in their everyday practices, including clothing style, the use of makeup, self-grooming, the development of personal mannerisms, and the way they interact with others. From Judith Butler's perspective, these practices constitute forms of gender performativity through which fans construct and representation themselves as women.
