Abstract

***** This study aims to examine the effect of interpersonal trust—with its two dimensions, namely other-focused trust and propensity to trust—on self-disclosure among young adults' Instagram secondary account users. This study employed a quantitative method, with data collected via a questionnaire distributed through Google Forms on social media. The measurement instruments used in this study were the Interpersonal Trust Scale developed by Ming Zhang (2021) and the Revised Self-Disclosure Scale developed by Lawrence R. Wheeless (1978). The population for this study consisted of Generation Z, with the sample comprising Generation Z individuals aged 20–29 years who are actively using their secondary accounts on Instagram. The hypothesis test conducted in this study was a multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that other-focused trust has no effect on self-disclosure, while the propensity to trust does have an effect on self-disclosure among early adults who use secondary Instagram accounts, with r² = .162, or approximately 16.2%. The remainder of self-disclosure is explained by other factors not discussed in this study.
