Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas pilihan karir mahasiswa Universitas Negeri Jakarta sebagai pelaku live streaming di tengah kerentanan generasi muda dan perubahan dunia kerja di era digital. Munculnya pekerjaan berbasis platform memberikan peluang bagi mahasiswa untuk memperoleh penghasilan dan pengalaman kerja sebelum menyelesaikan pendidikan tinggi, tetapi pada saat yang sama menghadirkan berbagai bentuk ketidakpastian dan kerentanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana mahasiswa UNJ memilih dan menjalani aktivitas live streaming sebagai bagian dari perjalanan karir mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk memahami pengalaman dan pandangan mahasiswa Universitas Negeri Jakarta dalam menjalani aktivitas live streaming sebagai bagian dari pilihan karir. Subjek penelitian dipilih secara purposive dengan kriteria sembilan mahasiswa aktif UNJ yang melakukan live streaming secara rutin melalui platform digital dan memperoleh penghasilan dari aktivitas tersebut. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada Januari hingga Mei 2026 dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan studi literatur. Dalam proses penelitian, peneliti berperan sebagai instrumen utama yang melakukan pengumpulan dan analisis data, sedangkan keabsahan data diperkuat melalui triangulasi sumber dengan membandingkan hasil wawancara, observasi, dan berbagai sumber data yang relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pilihan mahasiswa untuk terlibat dalam live streaming didorong oleh fleksibilitas waktu, peluang memperoleh penghasilan, kemudahan akses terhadap pekerjaan, serta pengaruh media sosial dan role model. Bagi sebagian mahasiswa, live streaming telah menjadi pekerjaan yang mampu memberikan penghasilan dan menopang kebutuhan hidup bahkan sebelum menyelesaikan pendidikan tinggi, sementara bagi mahasiswa lainnya aktivitas tersebut menjadi ruang untuk memperoleh pengalaman dan mengeksplorasi orientasi karir. Namun, pekerjaan ini juga menghadirkan kerentanan berupa ketidakpastian pendapatan, tuntutan performa, ketergantungan terhadap algoritma platform, serta tantangan dalam membagi waktu antara pekerjaan dan perkuliahan. Melalui perspektif Life Course Andy Furlong, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pilihan mahasiswa menjadi live streamer merupakan hasil negosiasi antara agency individu dengan kondisi struktural yang membentuk perjalanan karir generasi muda. Live streaming tidak lagi sekadar menjadi alternatif pekerjaan, tetapi telah menjadi bagian dari perjalanan kerja mahasiswa yang memungkinkan mereka memperoleh penghasilan dan membangun pengalaman profesional sebelum lulus, sekaligus menghadapi berbagai ketidakpastian dalam dunia kerja digital **** This study examines the career choices of Universitas Negeri Jakarta students who engage in live streaming amid youth vulnerability and changes in the world of work in the digital era. The emergence of platform-based work provides students with opportunities to earn income and gain work experience before completing higher education, while simultaneously creating various forms of uncertainty and vulnerability. This study aims to analyze how UNJ students choose and engage in live streaming as part of their career trajectories. This study employs a qualitative approach to understand the experiences and perspectives of Universitas Negeri Jakarta students who engage in live streaming as part of their career choices. The research subjects were selected through purposive sampling, with the criteria that nine participants were active UNJ students who regularly engaged in live streaming through digital platforms and earned income from these activities. The research was conducted from January to May 2026, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and a literature review. Throughout the research process, the researcher served as the primary instrument for data collection and analysis, while data validity was strengthened through source triangulation by comparing interview findings, observations, and relevant data sources. The findings show that students' decisions to engage in live streaming are driven by time flexibility, income opportunities, accessibility to work, as well as the influence of social media and role models. For some students, live streaming has become a job that provides income and supports their livelihoods even before they complete their higher education, while for others, it serves as a space to gain work experience and explore their career orientations. However, this form of work also creates vulnerabilities, including income uncertainty, performance demands, dependence on platform algorithms, and challenges in balancing work and academic responsibilities. Through Andy Furlong's Life Course perspective, this study demonstrates that students' decisions to become live streamers are shaped by negotiations between individual agency and the structural conditions that influence young people's career trajectories. Live streaming is no longer merely an alternative form of employment but has become part of students' working trajectories, enabling them to earn income and develop professional experience before graduation while simultaneously facing various uncertainties in the digital world of work.
