Abstract

***** This study aims to examine the effect of father's authoritarian parenting on difficulties in emotion regulation among emerging adults. A quantitative approach with simple linear regression design was employed, involving 263 participants aged 18–25 years selected through convenience sampling. Father's authoritarian parenting was measured using the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ) by Buri (1991), and difficulties in emotion regulation were measured using the Indonesian version of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale Short Form (DERS-SF) by Danasasmita et al. (2024). The results showed that father's authoritarian parenting did not significantly affect difficulties in emotion regulation among emerging adults (R = 0.0629; R² = 0.00395; p = 0.310 > 0.05), with a contribution of only 0.395%. These findings suggest that other factors are more dominant in shaping emotion regulation difficulties in this population.
