Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh potensi kulit kopi robusta sebagai sumber pewarna alami tekstil karena mengandung senyawa tanin, antosianin, flavonoid, dan senyawa fenolik yang mampu menghasilkan warna alami pada kain. Meskipun memiliki potensi tersebut, pemanfaatan kulit kopi sebagai pewarna alami tekstil, khususnya pada teknik shibori, masih relatif terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan pewarna alami kulit kopi robusta pada teknik shibori, menghasilkan produk outerwea, serta menganalisis nilai estetika produk berdasarkan teori estetika A.A.M. Djelantik yang meliputi aspek wujud, bobot/isi, dan penampilan/penyajian. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif. Tahapan penelitian meliputi ekstraksi zat warna kulit kopi robusta, mordan, pembuatan motif shibori, pencelupan, fiksasi warna, dan perwujudan hasil pewarnaan menjadi lima desain outerwear. Penilaian dilakukan oleh panelis ahli menggunakan instrumen rating scale berdasarkan teori estetika A.A.M. Djelantik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit kopi robusta menghasilkan warna cokelat alami dengan karakter lembut dan mampu membentuk variasi motif shibori yang khas. Berdasarkan panelis ahli, kelima produk outerwear memperoleh kategori sangat baik pada aspek wujud, bobot/isi, dan penampilan/penyajian. Dengan demikian, kulit kopi robusta berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai pewarna alami pada teknik shibori untuk menghasilkan produk outerwear yang memiliki nilai estetika berdasarkan aspek wujud, bobot/isi, dan penampilan/penyajian. ***** This study was motivated by the potential of Robusta coffee husk as a natural textile dye due to its tannun, anthocyanin, flavonoid, and phenolic compound contents, which are capable of producing natural colors on fabric. Despite this potential, the utilization of coffee husk as a natural textile dye, particularly in the shibori technique, remains limited. This study aimed to apply natural dye extracted from Robusta coffee husk to the shibori technique, produce outerwear, and analyze the aesthetic value of the products base on A.A.M. Djelantik’s aesthetic theory, which includes the aspects of form, content, and presentation. This study employed an experimental method with a quantitative descriptive approach. The research procedures included extracting dye form Robusta coffee husk, mordanting, creating shibori patterns, dyeing, color fixation, and developing the dyed fabrics into five outerwear designs. The products were evaluated by expert panelists using a rating scale instrument based on A.A.M. Djelantik’s aesthetic theory. The result shows that the Robusta coffee husk extract produced a soft natural brown color and created distinctive shibori pattern variations. Based on the evaluations of the expert panelists, all five outerwear designs achieved the very good category in the aspects of form, content, and presentation. Therefore, Robusta coffee husk has the potential to be utilized as a natural dye in the shibori technique to produce outerwear with aesthetic value based on the aspects of form, content, and presentation.
