Abstract

**** This study aims to examine the effect of float funds, electronic money transaction value, and interest rate on the velocity of money in Indonesia over the period 2015 to 2025. The background of this study stems from the phenomenon of a declining velocity of money that occurred alongside the rapid growth of Indonesia's digital payment ecosystem. This study applies a quantitative approach using secondary monthly time series data consisting of 132 observations, collected from the Indonesian Economic and Financial Statistics (SEKI) and the Payment System and Financial Market Infrastructure Statistics (SPIP) published by Bank Indonesia, along with Gross Domestic Product data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The analytical method employed is the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL), which is used to examine the relationship among variables in both the long run and the short run. Prior to the ARDL estimation, the data were tested through a series of procedures, including the stationarity test, the bound test for cointegration, optimal lag selection, classical assumption tests, and the parameter stability test. The results show that float funds have a negative and significant effect on the velocity of money in both the short run and the long run, while electronic money transaction value has no significant effect on the velocity of money in either the short run or the long run. In addition, the interest rate affects the velocity of money in the short run but has no significant effect in the long run. The Adjusted R-squared value of the ARDL model is 32.56 percent, indicating that the independent variables account for part of the variation in the velocity of money, while the remainder is explained by other factors outside the model. These findings indicate that the accumulation of float funds is the most dominant structural determinant in suppressing the speed of money circulation in Indonesia over the past decade. Therefore, Bank Indonesia needs to evaluate the regulation on float fund management and encourage faster utilization of electronic money balances so that liquidity transmission in the economy can continue to run optimally.
