Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Almut’s Pursuit of the Meaning of Life in We Live in Time (2024): A Logotherapy Perspective” Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana pencarian makna hidup digambarkan melalui karakter Almut dalam film We Live in Time (2024). Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, peneliti menggunakan teori tokoh dan penokohan oleh Boggs & Petrie (2008) untuk mengkaji konstruksi tokoh Almut, teori Logoterapi Viktor Frankl (1992) untuk menafsirkan pencarian makna hidupnya, dan teori semiotika Peirce untuk mengarahkan analisis tangkapan layar pendukung. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif-interpretatif. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Almut merupakan tokoh yang dinamis dan bulat, digambarkan sebagai sosok yang berbakat, keras kepala, penuh kasih dan perhatian, serta bersemangat dan perfeksionis dalam perannya sebagai seorang chef. Penokohan ini ditampilkan melalui dialognya, tindakan eksternal, reaksi orang lain, serta penggunaan Tobias sebagai karakter kontras. Pencarian makna hidup Almut digambarkan melalui tiga pilar logoterapi. Pertama, Kebebasan Berkehendak, yang ditunjukkan ketika ia memilih untuk mempertahankan satu ovarium dan tetap mengikuti kompetisi memasak meskipun sedang sakit. Almut pernah bertentangan dengan pilar kebebasan berkehendak dengan secara tidak bertanggung jawab menyembunyikan partisipasinya dalam kompetisi dari Tobias. Namun, ia akhirnya mengakui kesalahannya dan berhasil memperbaikinya. Kedua, Kehendak untuk Menemukan Makna, yang tergambar dalam kejatuhan emosionalnya ketika keputusannya untuk ikut kompetisi ditentang. Ketiga, Makna Hidup, yang ia temukan melalui pekerjaannya sebagai seorang koki, pengalaman cintanya kepada Tobias dan Ella, serta penderitaannya akibat kanker ovarium. Berdasarkan temuan ini, pencarian Almut akan makna hidup pada akhirnya selaras dengan pilar-pilar logoterapi, dan di akhir cerita ia berhasil mewujudkan makna hidupnya. ***** This undergraduate thesis is entitled “Almut’s Pursuit of the Meaning of Life in We Live in Time (2024): A Logotherapy Perspective.” This research aimed to analyse how the pursuit of the meaning of life is portrayed through Almut’s character in the movie We Live in Time (2024). To achieve this, the researcher employed the theory of character and characterisation by Boggs & Petrie (2008) to examine how Almut’s character is constructed, Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy (1992) to interpret her pursuit of meaning in life, and Peirce's semiotic theory to guide the analysis of supporting screen captures. The qualitative method and descriptive-interpretative approach are applied in conducting this research. The findings show that Almut is a dynamic and round character, portrayed as talented, stubborn, loving and caring, as well as passionate and perfectionist in her role as a chef. These traits are revealed through her dialogues, external actions, the reactions of others, and the use of Tobias as a contrast character. Almut’s pursuit of the meaning of life is portrayed through the three pillars of logotherapy. First, the Freedom of Will, which is shown when she chooses to keep one ovary and continues to participate in a cooking competition despite her illness. She once contradicts the pillar of Freedom of Will by irresponsibly hiding her participation in the competition from Tobias. However, she eventually admits her mistake and manages to correct it. Second, the Will to Meaning, which is shown in her emotional breakdown when her decision to join the competition is opposed. Third, the Meaning of Life, which she discovers through her work as a chef, her experience of love for Tobias and Ella, and her suffering from ovarian cancer. Based on these findings, Almut’s pursuit of meaning in life ultimately comes to align with the pillars of logotherapy, and at the end of the story, she succeeds in pursuing her meaning of life.
