Abstract
**** There is a growing demand for micellar water formulations that not only effectively cleanse the skin but also provide antioxidant benefits. Red spinach (Amaranthus tricolor L.) leaf extract is known to contain flavonoid, phenolic, and betalain compounds with potential as natural antioxidants. This study aimed to formulate a micellar water preparation containing red spinach leaf extract and to evaluate its physical and chemical characteristics as well as its antioxidant activity. This study employed an experimental design involving four formulations: F0 (0%), F1 (2.5%), F2 (5%), and F3 (7.5%) of red spinach leaf extract. The formulations were evaluated for organoleptic properties, pH, viscosity, physical stability using a cycling test, and antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. The results showed that all formulations exhibited good organoleptic characteristics, homogeneity, and stability after six cycles of the cycling test. The pH values ranged from 4.60 to 5.92, and viscosity values ranged from 4.101 to 4.929 cP, meeting the quality requirements for cosmetic preparations. The IC₅₀ values were 143.368 ppm, 85.558 ppm, 39.104 ppm, and 36.824 ppm, respectively. Formulation F3 demonstrated the highest antioxidant activity while meeting the required physical characteristics, and has the potential for development as a natural-based micellar water.
