Abstract
Polivinil alkohol (PVA) merupakan bahan pembentuk lapisan (film-forming agent) yang berperan penting dalam menentukan karakteristik fisik masker gel peel off. Variasi konsentrasi PVA dapat memengaruhi mutu sediaan, seperti viskositas, daya sebar, daya lekat dan waktu mengering. Ekstrak etanol biji pala (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) mengandung senyawa flavonoid yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan sehingga berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai bahan aktif dalam sediaan masker gel peel off. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasikan biji pala menjadi masker gel peel off dengan variasi konsentrasi PVA 10%, 12%, dan 14% serta mengevaluasi karakteristik fisiknya. Ekstrak diperoleh dengan metode maserasi menggunakan etanol 96% dan diuji aktivitas antioksidannya menggunakan metode DPPH. Pengujian evaluasi fisik sediaan meliputi organoleptik, viskositas, daya sebar, daya lekat, dan waktu mengering. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji One-Way ANOVA atau Welch ANOVA yang dilanjutkan dengan Post hoc Tukey HSD atau Games-Howell sesuai dengan karakteristik data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak biji pala memiliki aktivitas antioksidan sangat kuat dengan nilai IC₅₀ sebesar 9,648 ppm. Variasi konsentrasi PVA memengaruhi karakteristik sediaan, yaitu meningkatkan viskositas, daya lekat, dan waktu mengering serta menurunkan daya sebar seiring meningkatnya konsentrasi PVA. Seluruh formula memenuhi persyaratan organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, daya sebar, daya lekat dan waktu mengering, sedangkan formula dengan konsentrasi PVA 14% memiliki nilai viskositas yang sedikit melebihi batas acuan. Berdasarkan keseluruhan parameter fisik awal, formula dengan konsentrasi PVA 12% dapat dipertimbangkan sebagai formula yang seimbang, namun formula ini memiliki warna yang lebih keruh dibandingkan formula dengan konsentrasi PVA 10%. **** Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a film-forming agent that plays an important role in determining the physical characteristics of peel-off gel masks. Variations in PVA concentration may affect the quality of the formulation, including viscosity, spreadability, adhesiveness, and drying time. Ethanolic extract of nutmeg seeds (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) contains flavonoid compounds with antioxidant activity, making it a promising active ingredient for peel-off gel mask formulations. This study aimed to formulate a peel-off gel mask containing nutmeg seed extract with different PVA concentrations (10%, 12%, and 14%) and to evaluate its physical characteristics. The extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol and its antioxidant activity was determined using the DPPH method. The physical evaluation included organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, adhesiveness, and drying time. The data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA or Welch ANOVA, followed by Tukey's HSD or Games–Howell post hoc tests according to the characteristics of the data. The results showed that the nutmeg seed extract exhibited very strong antioxidant activity, with an IC₅₀ value of 9.659 ppm. Increasing the PVA concentration increased viscosity, adhesiveness, and drying time, while reducing spreadability. All formulations met the requirements for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, and drying time. However, the formulation containing 14% PVA exhibited a viscosity slightly above the recommended reference range. Based on the overall initial physical evaluation, the formulation containing 12% PVA was considered the most balanced formulation. Nevertheless, this formulation exhibited a more turbid appearance than the formulation containing 10% PVA. Further studies, including physical stability and safety evaluations, are required to confirm its suitability as the optimal formulation.
