Abstract

This study aimed to determine the differences in hair highlight coloring based on the use of bleaching preparations containing hydrogen peroxide concentrations of 3%, 6%, and 9%. Variations in hydrogen peroxide concentration were expected to influence hair lightness, color uniformity, processing time efficiency, achievement of the desired highlight color, and the overall quality of the final coloring result. This research employed a true experimental method using Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The research samples consisted of 15 medium-length virgin hair tresses, which were randomly assigned into three treatment groups using hydrogen peroxide concentrations of 3%, 6%, and 9%. All samples underwent a bleaching process using the highlight weaving technique, followed by coloring with an ash brown shade. The results were evaluated by three expert panelists using a rating scale instrument based on five indicators: color lightness, color uniformity, processing time efficiency, achievement of the target highlight color, and the overall quality of the highlighted hair. The data were analyzed using prerequisite tests, including tests of normality and homogeneity, followed by a One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) to determine the differences among the treatment groups. The findings revealed significant differences in bleaching results among the three hydrogen peroxide concentrations. The 3% hydrogen peroxide treatment produced the slowest lightening process, the 6% concentration provided the best balance between lightening performance and processing time efficiency, while the 9% concentration achieved the fastest lightening process in reaching the target ash brown color. Therefore, the concentration of hydrogen peroxide significantly affected the bleaching results in hair highlight coloring.
