Abstract

Kata Kunci: Strategi permintaan maaf, tindak tutur ekspresif, anggota DPR ***** This study examines the apology strategies used in clarification and apology videos by members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), which were produced in response to a crisis of public trust in the DPR and demonstrations held by students and civilians in August September 2025. The purpose of this study is to describe the forms of apology strategies found in apology statements, as well as the most common or dominant apology strategies in the clarification and apology videos of DPR RI members. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method with a pragmatic approach grounded in the concept of the expressive speech act of apologizing and Cohen and Olshtain’s model of apology strategies, which encompasses five major categories: expression of apology (APOL), explanation or account of the situation (EXPL), acknowledgment of responsibility (RESP), offer of reparation (REPR), and promise of forbearance (FORB). The research data consisted of 52 transcribed utterances from eight members of the DPR RI. The results show that all five categories of strategies were found in the speech data, with APOL being the most dominant strategy (14 instances), followed by FORB (13 instances), then RESP (12 instances), next EXPL (11 instances), and finally REPR (2 instances). These findings indicate that each DPR member employs different strategies and methods of delivery when apologizing. Keywords: Apology strategy, expressive speech act, DPR
