Abstract

Kaolin Clay merupakan mineral lempung yang banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan aktif masker wajah karena teksturnya yang halus, daya adsorpsi yang ringan, dan kompatibilitasnya yang baik. Namun, kajian mengenai kelayakannya masih didominasi pendekatan eksperimental, sedangkan perspektif pakar akademisi, formulator, dan praktisi industri masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pandangan pakar mengenai kelayakan, pertimbangan pemanfaatan, serta kelebihan, keterbatasan, keamanan, dan potensi pengembangan Kaolin Clay sebagai bahan aktif masker wajah, dengan rumusan masalah bagaimana pandangan pakar mengenai ketiga aspek tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif melalui wawancara semiterstruktur dan dokumentasi terhadap tiga informan purposive, yaitu akademisi, formulator, dan praktisi industri, dengan keabsahan data diuji melalui triangulasi sumber dan teknik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketiga informan menilai Kaolin Clay layak digunakan karena karakteristiknya mendukung fungsi pembersihan dan penyerapan minyak berlebih, dengan pertimbangan pemanfaatan mencakup kesesuaian jenis kulit, ketepatan formulasi, serta kompatibilitas bahan. Dari aspek keamanan, Kaolin Clay dinilai relatif aman apabila menggunakan bahan bermutu dan sesuai regulasi, meskipun tetap memiliki risiko kekeringan kulit dan kontraindikasi pada kondisi tertentu. Pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa integrasi tiga perspektif pakar memberikan gambaran yang lebih komprehensif dibandingkan penelitian eksperimental semata. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa Kaolin Clay memiliki kelayakan dan potensi pengembangan yang baik sebagai bahan aktif masker wajah, termasuk sebagai bahan baku lokal Indonesia, dengan tetap memperhatikan mutu dan keamanan produk akhir. Saran penelitian meliputi pengujian laboratorium dan klinis lanjutan, pelibatan informan dermatolog dan regulator, serta pengembangan standar mutu Kaolin Clay lokal. ***** Kaolin clay is a clay mineral widely used as an active ingredient in facial masks due to its fine texture, mild adsorption capacity, and good compatibility with other ingredients. However, studies on its feasibility remain dominated by experimental approaches, while perspectives from academics, formulators, and industry practitioners remain limited. This study aimed to analyze experts' views on the feasibility, utilization considerations, advantages, limitations, safety, and development potential of kaolin clay as an active ingredient in facial masks, with the research problem focusing on how experts view these aspects. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method through semi-structured interviews and documentation with three purposively selected informants, namely an academic, a formulator, and an industry practitioner, with data validity assessed through source and technique triangulation. The findings showed that all informants considered kaolin clay feasible due to its characteristics supporting cleansing and excess oil absorption, with utilization considerations including skin-type suitability, formulation accuracy, and ingredient compatibility. In terms of safety, kaolin clay was considered relatively safe when quality materials are used and applicable regulations are followed, although risks such as skin dryness and contraindications under certain conditions remain. The discussion showed that integrating the three expert perspectives provided a more comprehensive picture than experimental research alone. This study concludes that kaolin clay has good feasibility and development potential as an active ingredient in facial masks, including as a local Indonesian raw material, while still requiring attention to product quality and safety. Recommendations include further laboratory and clinical testing, involving dermatology and regulatory informants, and developing quality standards for local kaolin clay.
