Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan mendekonstruksi nilai chūgi yang termanifestasi pada tokoh Hori-sensei dalam film Monster (2023). Film ini menyoroti peristiwa perundungan murid dan kesalahpahaman yang terjadi antara tiga tokoh utama, yaitu: Minato, Saori, dan Hori-sensei. Namun, penelitian ini difokuskan kepada konflik chūgi yang dialami Hori-sensei antara posisinya dalam institusi sekolah dan tanggung jawabnya sebagai guru. Penelitian ini mengacu kepada teori semiotika Roland Barthes, serta analisis dekonstruksi Jacques Derrida. Sumber data primer dari penelitian ini adalah film Monster (2023), sedangkan sumber data sekunder berupa buku, jurnal, dan artikel ilmiah. Data yang dianalisis berupa adegan-adegan yang mengandung manifestasi nilai chūgi pada tokoh Hori-sensei. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui pendekatan sosiologi sastra dengan metode analisis isi melalui tiga tahap, yaitu: (1) observasi terhadap film; (2) identifikasi nilai chūgi yang termanifestasi pada perilaku atau tindakan Hori-sensei; (3) dekonstruksi struktur pemaknaan nilai chūgi; kemudian diakhiri dengan penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis identifikasi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa bentuk chūgi yang termanifestasi pada perilaku Hori-sensei, apabila diurutkan berdasarkan frekuensinya, adalah sebagai berikut: (1) dedikasi memenuhi tanggung jawab sebagai guru; (2) kepatuhan terhadap perintah dari atasan; dan (3) menjaga kehormatan atasan. Kemudian, melalui analisis dekonstruksi, dapat diketahui bahwa ketidakpatuhan yang ditunjukkan Hori-sensei dapat dilihat tidak hanya sebagai kegagalan pemenuhan nilai chūgi, namun sebagai bentuk dedikasinya dalam memenuhi tanggung jawabnya sebagai guru. Setelah itu, diketahui bahwa perilaku Hori-sensei mengungkap pemaknaan nilai chūgi yang berpusat pada dedikasi kepada pimpinan ternyata tidak memadai kompleksitas penerapannya, sehingga ditangguhkan kembali melalui definisinya yang paling relevan menjadi: chūgi berarti kesetiaan yang dilakukan secara total dan penuh dedikasi dalam melaksanakan tanggung jawab atau chūgi berarti perilaku atau tindakan yang dilakukan untuk melaksanakan tanggung jawab. ***** The purpose of this research is to identify and deconstruct how chūgi is manifested through the actions of Hori-sensei in the film Monster (2023). This research focuses on the conflict of chūgi within Hori-sensei between his position in the school institution and his responsibility as a teacher. This research utilizes Roland Barthes’ theory of semiotics and Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction. The primary source of data for this research is the film Monster (2023), and the secondary source of data are books, journals, and research articles. The data analyzed are scenes in which chūgi is manifested by Hori-sensei. This research is done through the sociological approach of literature with the content analysis method in three steps, which are: (1) Observation of the film; (2) Identification of chūgi; (3) Deconstruction of chūgi; and a conclusion of research. Based on the result of the identification analysis, the chūgi manifested by Hori-sensei, sorted by frequency, are as follows: (1) dedication to fulfil his task as a teacher; (2) loyalty to the orders of his superiors; and (3) defending the honor of his superiors. Based on the result of the deconstruction analysis, Hori-sensei’s disloyalty can be seen not simply as his failure to follow chūgi, but a show of his integrity, as well as his dedication to protect his students. It is concluded that the meaning of chūgi that is centered around a leader figure does not encapsulate the complexities of the chūgi manifested by Hori-sensei, thus it is deferred from its most relevant definition into: chūgi is loyalty done in totality and dedication in fulfilling one’s responsibility or chūgi is an act or decision done to fulfil one’s responsibility.
