This study employs a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through the non-participatory listening technique (SBLC), note-taking, and documentation. This study focuses on the utterances or dialogues of the characters that contain illocutionary speech acts. These will then be analyzed using Searle’s speech act theory, which encompasses five types: assertive speech acts, directive speech acts, commissive speech acts, expressive speech acts, and declarative speech acts. Additionally, Leech’s theory of illocutionary functions will be applied, which includes competitive, convivial, collaborative, and conflictive functions. The research results show that 54 instances of illocutionary speech acts were identified, consisting of 16 assertive speech acts, 23 directive speech acts, 1 commissive speech act, and 14 expressive speech acts. The illocutionary functions identified included 10 instances of the competitive function, 17 instances of the convivial function, 14 instances of the collaborative function, and 13 instances of the conflictive function. All five types of illocutionary acts and illocutionary functions were found in the film “Bila Esok Ibu Tiada.” This study is expected to contribute to the field of pragmatics and serve as a reference for researchers and film industry professionals in understanding illocutionary acts in film. Keywords: illocutionary acts, types, functions, pragmatcs, the movie.
