Abstract
***** Floods are among the most frequently occurring natural disasters in Sumatra and have significant impacts on the psychological well-being of survivors. Resilience is an essential psychological capacity that enables individuals to withstand and recover from adversity in the aftermath of a disaster. Spirituality is considered one of the factors that may contribute to the development of resilience. This study aimed to examine the effect of spirituality on resilience among flood disaster survivors in Sumatra. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design. A total of 183 participants aged 18 - 60 years, residing in Aceh, North Sumatra, or West Sumatra, who had directly experienced a flood disaster, were recruited through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) and the Resilience Scale (RS). Simple linear regression analysis revealed that spirituality significantly influenced resilience, with an R² value of 0.031, indicating that spirituality accounted for 3.1% of the variance in resilience. The findings of this study demonstrate that spirituality has a positive effect on the resilience of flood disaster survivors in Sumatra, meaning that an increase in spirituality is accompanied by an increase in resilience among flood survivors.
