Abstract

Sementara bagian diskusi dianalisis berdasarkan fungsi naratif bahasa fiksi menurut Israel Noletto (2024). This study analyzed the fictional words of the movies Wicked (2024) and Wicked: For Good (2025). It examined how the fictional words are formed and how they function in the movies. The qualitative descriptive method and interpretative approach was used in this study. This study primarily applied George Yule’s (2023) word formation process and Janet Holmes’ (2013) speech functions. While the discussion is analyzed based on Israel Noletto’s (2024) narrative functions of fictional language. Out of seven main word formation processes by Yule (2023), five of them (derivation, compounding, coinage, borrowing and multiple processes) were found in analyzing how the fictional words are formed with derivation being the dominant type (53%). The word formation process of blending that belongs to compounding was also applied in analyzing the fictional words. Additionally, the concept of alternation by Fromkin et al. (2013) was applied in analyzing three fictional words that could not be analyzed using Yule’s (2023) word formation processes. There are five out of six of Holmes’ (2013) speech functions that were found in the utterances that contain fictional words, namely referential, expressive, directive, phatic, and poetic, with the referential function being the dominant type (45.63%). This study also analyzed the function of fictional words based on the speech functions of their utterances. The fictional words were also revealed that they support the characterization of the movies which aligns with Noletto’s (2024) descriptive function. This can be seen by the use of fictional words by characters who are considered to be classified in the higher social class. Several fictional words also support the personalities and developments of certain characters. Fictional words were also revealed to be supporting aspects of the development of the plot, as they were used during several turning points of the movies that brought the story forward. This aligns with Noletto’s (2024) diegetic function.
