Abstract

***** The advancement of digital technology has transformed social media from a mere communication tool into a space for emotional self-disclosure, including among individuals in early adulthood. One form of emotional disclosure emerging in this context is sadfishing. This study aims to examine the influence of attention seeking and perceived social support on sadfishing tendency in early adulthood. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The subjects of this study were Indonesian citizens in early adulthood aged 18–40 who actively use social media and had previously posted emotional content. The results show that attention seeking and perceived social support simultaneously have a significant influence on sadfishing tendency in early adulthood. Partially, only attention seeking has a positive and significant influence on sadfishing tendency, whereas perceived social support does not have a significant influence. These findings indicate that sadfishing tendency in early adulthood is better understood as behavior driven by an attention-seeking motive rather than as compensation for low perceived social support.
