Abstract

**** This study aimed to examine the effects of digital literacy, conversation orientation, and conformity orientation on smartphone addiction among Generation Alpha adolescents. This study employed a quantitative approach, with the population consisting of Generation Alpha adolescents and the sample determined using purposive sampling. Of the 212 respondents who participated in the study, the main analysis was conducted on 53 respondents who met the criteria for smartphone addiction based on the cut-off score of the Smartphone Addiction Scale–Short Version (SAS-SV). The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that digital literacy did not have a significant effect on smartphone addiction (β = 0.096, p = 0.546). Conversation orientation also did not have a significant effect on smartphone addiction (β = -0.045, p = 0.774), while conformity orientation showed a positive but non-significant effect (β = 0.167, p = 0.255). Simultaneously, the three independent variables did not have a significant effect on smartphone addiction (F = 0.719, p = 0.545, R² = 0.042). These findings indicate that among adolescents who met the criteria for smartphone addiction, digital literacy, conversation orientation, and conformity orientation were not able to directly explain variations in the level of smartphone addiction. The findings indicate the need to consider other psychological and behavioral factors that are more closely related to the addictive process.
