Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada identifikasi metafora konseptual yang digunakan untuk menggambarkan kecemasan dalam lirik lagu Niall Horan serta mengkaji bagaimana ranah abstrak dan konkret dipetakan untuk mengekspresikan kecemasan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam studi ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Dengan menggunakan Teori Metafora Konseptual Lakoff dan Johnson sebagai kerangka analisis, penelitian ini menganalisis lima lirik lagu terpilih dari Niall Horan, yaitu Since We’re Alone, Mirrors, Dear Patience, Meltdown, dan Science. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa kecemasan sebagian besar diekspresikan melalui metafora ontologis. Dari kelima lagu yang diteliti, ditemukan 24 metafora konseptual yang diambil dari domain sumber seperti alam, tubuh dan berat fisik, gerakan dan arah, citra predator, serta keterbatasan ruang. Temuan ini mengungkapkan 24 metafora konseptual yang mewakili kecemasan. Metafora-metafora ini mengacu pada beragam domain sumber yang terkait dengan pengalaman tubuh, termasuk fenomena alam, berat fisik, gerakan yang tidak terkendali, kekuatan destruktif, keterbatasan ruang, predator, bayangan, kerapuhan, dan pengalaman fisik. Di antara metafora yang teridentifikasi, 21 di antaranya merupakan metafora ontologis dan 3 merupakan metafora orientasional, yang menunjukkan bahwa kecemasan sebagian besar direpresentasikan sebagai entitas konkret atau pengalaman fisik dalam lirik lagu Niall Horan. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Niall Horan menggunakan beragam metafora yang berakar pada pengalaman tubuh, bukan sekadar satu gambaran konseptual, untuk merepresentasikan kecemasan. ***** This study focuses on identifying the conceptual metaphors used to represent anxiety in Niall Horan’s song lyrics and to examine how abstract and concrete domains are mapped to express anxiety. The research method adopted in this study is a descriptive qualitative method. By using Lakoff and Johnson’s Conceptual Metaphor Theory as the analytical framework, this study analyzed five selected song lyrics of Niall Horan, namely, Since We’re Alone, Mirrors, Dear Patience, Meltdown, and Science. The findings show that anxiety is mostly shown through ontological metaphors. Across the five songs studied, twenty-four conceptual metaphors were found, drawn from source domains such as nature, the body and physical weight, movement and direction, predator imagery, and confinement. The findings reveal 24 conceptual metaphors representing anxiety. These metaphors draw on a wide range of embodied source domains, including natural phenomena, physical weight, uncontrolled movement, destructive force, confinement, predators, shadows, fragility, and bodily experiences. Among the identified metaphors, 21 are ontological metaphors and 3 are orientational metaphors, indicating that anxiety is predominantly represented as a concrete entity or physical experience in Niall Horan’s song lyrics. Overall, the study demonstrates that Niall Horan employs diverse embodied metaphors rather than a single conceptual image to represent anxiety.
