Abstract
***** The use of assistive technology plays an important role in supporting the learning of visually impaired students in inclusive schools. However, field observations show that available assistive technology is not yet used optimally. This study aims to explore and describe how assistive technology is used in the learning process of visually impaired students at SMAN 54 Jakarta. A qualitative method with a case study approach was used. Data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model with NVivo 15 software. The findings show that although various no-tech, low-tech, and high-tech assistive devices are available at the school, smartphones with the TalkBack feature are the most commonly used by students. Students learned to use this feature independently (self-taught) due to a lack of formal training and teachers' limited understanding of assistive technology. As a result, teachers mainly support students by adapting learning materials and providing learning flexibility. The use of assistive technology has a positive impact on making learning easier and improving academic performance for visually impaired students. Nevertheless, its application still faces challenges, such as limited training, inadequate facilities, and technical problems. Therefore, the school needs to provide better support through improved facilities and structured training on assistive technology to support visually impaired students more effectively.
