Abstract
***** This study aims to describe the intercultural communication experiences of female refugees who are members of the community while living in Jakarta. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with three female refugees from Afghanistan, Palestine, and Yemen, supported by a triangulation interview with the founder of Refuture Indonesia. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model. The findings show that the participants' intercultural communication competence developed through the dimensions of motivation, knowledge, and skills. Motivation consisted of intrinsic curiosity toward Indonesian culture and extrinsic needs to adapt and build social relationships. Knowledge developed through culture-specific and culture-general understanding gained from direct interaction with Indonesian society. Skills were demonstrated through intercultural listening skill, communication flexibility skill, and tolerance for ambiguity in dealing with language barriers, cultural differences, stereotypes, anxiety, and uncertainty. This study concludes that intercultural communication competence enables female refugees to communicate effectively while supporting their social integration into Indonesian society.
