Abstract

***** This study aims to determine the influence of social anxiety on the tendency toward social media addiction among late adolescents in the Jabodetabek area. The study employs a quantitative approach utilizing a causal-correlational method and simple linear regression analysis. Purposive sampling was used to select 139 participants—late adolescents aged 18–21 residing in the Jabodetabek area who actively use social media daily. Data collection was conducted using the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A) to measure social anxiety and the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) to measure the tendency toward social media addiction. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics software. The results indicate that social anxiety has a positive and significant influence on the tendency toward social media addiction among late adolescents in the Jabodetabek area. The analysis also yielded a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.752, meaning that social anxiety contributes 75.2% to the variation in the tendency toward social media addiction, while the remaining 24.8% is explained by factors not examined in this study. These findings demonstrate that higher levels of social anxiety are associated with a higher tendency toward social media addiction among late adolescents. Keywords: Social Media Addiction Tendencies, Social Anxiety, Late Adolescents, Social Media, Jabodetabek area.
