Abstract

Legenda Ikan Dewa Cibulan merupakan salah satu warisan budaya lokal masyarakat Kuningan, Jawa Barat yang memiliki nilai spiritual, simbolik, dan ekologis. Keberadaan Ikan Dewa tidak hanya dipahami sebagai bagian dari fauna lokal, tetapi juga sebagai representasi kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap hubungan manusia, alam, dan nilai-nilai sakral yang diwariskan secara turun-temurun. Namun, perkembangan pariwisata dan perubahan pola konsumsi budaya menyebabkan adanya pergeseran makna, di mana nilai spiritual yang melekat pada legenda tersebut berpotensi mengalami reduksi menjadi sekadar objek wisata visual. Penciptaan karya ini bertujuan untuk mereaktualisasi nilai spiritual Ikan Dewa Cibulan melalui pendekatan seni visual kontemporer dalam bentuk photography based mixed media animation. Metode penciptaan yang digunakan adalah practice-led research dengan tahapan eksplorasi ide, pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, studi literatur, eksperimen visual, serta proses perwujudan karya. Fotografi digunakan sebagai medium dokumentasi sekaligus dasar visual, yang kemudian dikembangkan melalui teknik mixed media seperti collage layering, pengolahan tekstur, printing, dan animasi frame-by-frame. Karya ini mengeksplorasi elemen visual berupa ikan, air, ruang sakral, cahaya, serta simbol-simbol budaya sebagai representasi hubungan antara memori, spiritualitas, dan perubahan makna budaya. Hasil penciptaan menunjukkan bahwa perpaduan fotografi dan mixed media animation mampu menjadi medium alternatif dalam menghadirkan kembali nilai spiritual yang mulai mengalami pergeseran. Karya ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai representasi legenda Ikan Dewa Cibulan, tetapi juga sebagai ruang refleksi mengenai pentingnya menjaga hubungan manusia dengan alam, tradisi, dan warisan budaya lokal di tengah perkembangan zaman. The existence of Ikan Dewa is not merely understood as a local fauna, but also as a representation of the community’s belief regarding the relationship between humans, nature, and sacred values inherited through generations. However, the development of tourism and changes in cultural consumption have caused a shift in meaning, where the spiritual values embedded in the legend are increasingly reduced into a visual tourism attraction. This creation aims to reactualize the spiritual values of Ikan Dewa Cibulan through contemporary visual art using a photography based mixed media animation approach. The creation method applied in this research is practice-led research, consisting of idea exploration, data collection through observation, interviews, literature studies, visual experimentation, and artwork production. Photography functions as both a documentation medium and a visual foundation, which is further developed through mixed media techniques such as collage layering, texture exploration, printing, and frame-by-frame animation. The artwork explores visual elements including fish, water, sacred spaces, light, and cultural symbols as representations of memory, spirituality, and the transformation of cultural meanings. The result of this creation demonstrates that the combination of photography and mixed media animation can serve as an alternative medium to revive spiritual values that have gradually faded. This artwork does not only represent the legend of Ikan Dewa Cibulan, but also provides a reflective space to reconsider the relationship between humans, nature, tradition, and local cultural heritage within the context of contemporary society.
