Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan pendekatan kontekstual berbasis etnomatematika pada kebudayaan Jawa Barat terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah eksperimen semu (quasi-experiment) dengan posttest-only control group design. Populasi terjangkau penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 11 Depok tahun ajaran 2025/2026, dengan sampel yang diambil menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling pada kelas yang memenuhi uji prasyarat dan menghasilkan kelas VII-9 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan VII-8 sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis yang terdiri dari tujuh soal esai pada materi aritmatika sosial yang telah teruji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Hasil pengujian hipotesis menggunakan uji-t pada taraf signifikansi = 0,05 menunjukkan nilai t hitung lebih dari t tabel sehingga tolak H0. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa pendekatan kontekstual berbasis etnomatematika Jawa Barat memberikan pengaruh positif, di mana rata-rata kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa pada kelas eksperimen secara signifikan lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Selain itu, diperoleh nilai besar pengaruh pada uji Cohen's d sebesar 0,739 dengan persentase pengaruh 76% yang termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan kontekstual berbasis etnomatematika pada kebudayaan Jawa Barat memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa, meskipun implementasinya menghadapi kendala keterbatasan waktu dan partisipasi siswa yang belum optimal. ***** This study aims to determine the effect of applying an ethnomathematics-based contextual approach rooted in West Javanese culture on students’ mathematical conceptual understanding. The method used was a quasi-experiment with a posttest-only control group design. The accessible population for this study was all seventh-grade students at State Junior High School 11 Depok for the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample was selected using cluster random sampling from classes that met the prerequisite criteria, resulting in Class VII-9 as the experimental class and Class VII-8 as the control class. The research instrument consisted of a test of mathematical conceptual understanding comprising seven essay questions on social arithmetic material, the validity and reliability of which had been previously established. The results of hypothesis testing using a t-test at a significance level = 0.05 showed that the calculated t-value is greater than the critical t-value, leading to the rejection of H0. These results indicate that the contextual approach based on West Javanese ethnomathematics has a positive effect, as the average mathematical conceptual understanding of students in the experimental class was significantly higher than that of the control class. In addition, Cohen’s d test yielded a value of 0.739, representing a 76% effect size, which falls into the moderate category. These results show that the contextual approach based on the ethnomathematics of West Javanese culture has a positive effect on students’ mathematical conceptual understanding, even though its implementation faced constraints such as time limitations and suboptimal student participation.
