Abstract
This study aims to analyze the relationship between parental attachment, self-esteem, and aggression among high school students in Pontang District. A quantitative approach with a correlational method was employed. The study population consisted of 435 eleventh-grade students from five high schools in Pontang District, Serang Regency. A sample of 208 respondents was selected using probability sampling—specifically proportionate stratified random sampling—based on Slovin's formula (1960) with a 5% margin of error. Data collection utilized three instruments that had passed validity and reliability tests: the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) developed by Armsden and Greenberg (1987) to measure parental attachment; the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) developed by Rosenberg (1965) to measure self-esteem; and the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ) by Buss and Perry (1992) to measure student aggression. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that parental attachment and self-esteem have a significant simultaneous relationship with student aggression (F = 31.147, p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R-squared) of 0.232 demonstrates a significant relationship between parental attachment, self-esteem, and adolescent aggression. These two variables explain 23.2% of the variation in student aggression, while the remaining 76.8% is attributed to factors outside the research model. This suggests that higher levels of parental attachment and self-esteem in students are associated with lower levels of aggression. The implications of this study can be applied through parenting education programs that focus on strengthening communication, trust, and parental acceptance of adolescents as a means to help prevent aggression.
