Abstract

Pemahaman konsep sistem pernapasan masih menjadi kendala dalam pembelajaran biologi di tingkat SMA. Literasi sains dan kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan keterampilan abad ke-21 yang berperan penting dalam membantu murid memahami konsep biologi secara mendalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara literasi sains dan kemampuan berpikir kritis terhadap pemahaman konsep sistem pernapasan murid SMA. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi korelasional. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Desember 2024 hingga April 2025 di SMAN 11 Jakarta dengan melibatkan 92 murid kelas XI Peminatan Biologi sebagai sampel. Instrumen penelitian berupa 25 soal pilihan ganda untuk mengukur pemahaman konsep, 10 soal pilihan ganda untuk mengukur literasi sains, dan 12 soal uraian untuk mengukur kemampuan berpikir kritis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa literasi sains berada pada kategori tinggi, kemampuan berpikir kritis pada kategori sangat tinggi, dan pemahaman konsep sistem pernapasan pada kategori tinggi. Analisis data menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif antara literasi sains dan kemampuan berpikir kritis, baik secara terpisah maupun bersama-sama, terhadap pemahaman konsep sistem pernapasan, dengan koefisien korelasi (r) sebessar 0,887 dan koefisien determinasi (R2) sebesar 0,787. Dengan demikian, literasi sains dan kemampuan berpikir kritis secara bersama-sama memberikan kontribusi sebesar 78% terhadap variasi pemahaman konsep sistem pernapasan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penguatan literasi sains dan kemampuan berpikir kritis dapat mendukung peningkatan pemahaman konsep murid dalam pembelajaran biologi.*****Understanding the concept of the respiratory system remains a challenge in biology learning at the senior high school level. Scientific literacy and critical thinking skill are 21st-century skills that play an important role in helping students develop a deeper understanding of biological concepts. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between scientific literacy, critical thinking skills, and students’ understanding of the respiratory system. The study employed a descriptive method with a correlational approach. It was conducted from December 2024 to April 2025 at SMAN 11 Jakarta, involving 92 Grade 11 students majoring in Biology as the sample. The research instruments consisted of 25 multiple-choice questions measuring conceptual understanding, 10 multiple-choice questions measuring scientific literacy, and 12 essay questions measuring critical thinking skills. The results showed that scientific literacy was categorized as high, critical thinking skills as very high, and understanding of the respiratory system as high. Data analysis revealed a positive relationship between scientific literacy and critical thinking skills, both individually and jointly, with students’ understanding of the respiratory system, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.887 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.787. Thus, scientific literacy and critical thinking skills jointly contributed 78% to the variation in students’ understanding of the respiratory system. These findings indicate that strengthening scientific literacy and critical thinking skills can support the improvement of students’ conceptual understanding in biology learning.
