Abstract

Kata Kunci: Artificial Intelligence, Artistic Research, Deepfake, New Media Art, Simulacra. ***** This New Media Art installation, titled "Synthetic Identity," is born out of the artist's traumatic firsthand experience of cyber extortion involving AI manipulated footage. This study employs an artistic research methodology, seamlessly integrating personal reflection into the stages of conceptualization, media experimentation, and visual execution. To critically dissect this phenomenon, the artist applies Jean Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra to analyze how deepfake technology blurs the line between actual reality and artificial reality, ultimately triggering a widespread crisis of public trust in cyberspace. Visually, this digital terror is manifested through the manipulation of human facial imagery subjected to distortion, corruption, and the addition of visual elements such as Heads-Up Displays and scanlines to construct a tense and threatening impression. Operationally, the artist incorporates an interactive blend of analog and digital mediums. Physical hardware including a CRT television, a handycam, and a laptop are integrated with a programming system using Python, Visual Studio Code, and OBS Studio to process the audience's faces in real-time. This combined installation serves as a metaphor for the real-world production cycle of cyber terror. Ultimately, through the artwork "Synthetic Identity," the artist succeeds in transforming personal trauma into a social alarm, urging the public to recognize the importance of cybersecurity awareness and digital literacy when navigating today's synthetic realities. Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Artistic Research, Deepfake, New Media Art, Simulacra.
