Abstract
This research aimed to improve students' early writing learning outcomes through the use of a pencil grip as an assistive tool for students with mild intellectual disabilities in Phase B at SLB B&C Karya Guna Jakarta. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were three students with mild intellectual disabilities in Phase B. Data were collected through observation, performance tests, documentation, and field notes. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques by comparing the results of the pre-action, Cycle I, and Cycle II. The results showed that the use of the pencil grip effectively improved the students' early writing learning outcomes. The improvement was reflected in the students' ability to hold a pencil correctly, control finger movements, and connect dots to form vertical, horizontal, curved, and zigzag lines more accurately and independently. In addition, the students became more focused, confident, and actively involved in the learning process. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of a pencil grip is effective in improving the early writing learning outcomes and can serve as an alternative instructional aid to support the development of early writing skills.
