Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify and describe educational character values contained in Breaking Night’s Novel by Liz Murray. This research is qualitative method. The data taken in the form of words, dialoque, sentences or paragraphs in accordance with the focus of research that uses a qualitative description of the analytical techniques of content analiysis. This study is an analysis of semiotic structuralism. Based on research, the researcher found many semiotic elements relating to educational character, especially hardworking value, independent value, honestly value, tolerance value, communicative value, and fond of reading value. The data are 17% icon, 59% index, and 24% symbol. The collection of data use reading, comprehending novel as whole and making note method which are related to educational character value. The novel give an explanation that how education can bring life brighten and how the role of government, school, parent, and environment in developing child’s educational character. Main character showed the big role of school to developed student’s character.
