Abstract

Penulisan skripsi ini dilatarbelakangi oleh sejarah pergerakan yang memiliki sejarah panjang dan tidak hanya dilakukan oleh etnis pribumi melainkan etnis lain juga berperan khususnya etnis Tionghoa salah satunya Liem Koen Hian, yang mempunyai peran dalam memperjuangkan kemerdekaan Indonesia. Tujuan dari skripsi ini untuk mendeskripsikan biografi, latar belakang kehidupan serta karier politik yang mempengaruhi Liem Koen Hian untuk menggerakkan peranakan etnis Tionghoa dalam memperjuangkan kemerdekaan Indonesia. Diambil dari tahun 1896 sejak kelahiran Liem hingga tahun 1952 saat Liem Koen Hian telah meninggalkan perpolitikan dan saat Liem sudah wafat. Penulisan ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif naratif dan metode sejarah menurut Louis Gottschalk. Metode sejarah terdiri dari empat langkah, yaitu 1) Heuristik adalah langkah awal kegiatan untuk mencari sumber untuk menemukan data-data; 2) Verifikasi (kritik sumber), dengan melakukan kritik ekstern dan intern, untuk mengetahui otentitas dan kredibilitas sumber; 3) Interpretasi yaitu menafsirkan isi sumber untuk mendapatkan fakta-fakta yang digunakan untuk merekonstruksi sejarah yang akan ditulis; 4) Historiografi adalah rekonstruksi dari masa lampau berdasarkan data yang diperoleh untuk merangkai sejarah. Hasil dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa Liem Koen Hian adalah seorang peranakan Tionghoa. Liem Koen Hian adalah peranakan Tionghoa yang membangun reputasinya menjadi wartawan dan tokoh pergerakan. Melalui pekerjaannya tersebut Liem menanamkan pemikiran politiknya dengan mengajak bergabungnya golongan peranakan Tionghoa dalam kebangsaan Indonesia melalui partai yang dibentuknya serta peran yang dilakukan dalam berbagai delegasi untuk memperjuangkan kemerdekaan Indonesia. The writing of this thesis is motivated by the history of the movement which has a long history and is not only carried out by indigenous ethnic groups but other ethnic groups also play a role, especially the Chinese ethnic, one of which is Liem Koen Hian, who has a role in fighting for Indonesian independence. The purpose of this thesis is to describe the biography, background of life and political career that influenced Liem Koen Hian to mobilize the ethnic Chinese in the struggle for Indonesian independence. Taken from 1896 from Liem's birth to 1952 when Liem Koen Hian had left politics and when Liem had died. This writing uses a descriptive narrative approach and the historical method according to Louis Gottschalk. The historical method consists of four steps, namely 1) Heuristics is the initial step of activities to find sources to find data; 2) Verification (source criticism), by conducting external and internal criticism, to determine the authenticity and credibility of the source; 3) Interpretation, namely interpreting the contents of the source to obtain facts that are used to reconstruct the history to be written; 4) Historiography is a reconstruction of the past based on the data obtained to compose history. The result of the research that has been done is that Liem Koen Hian is a peranakan Chinese whose role is Liem Koen Hian is a peranakan Chinese who cbuilt his reputation as a journalist and movement figure. Through his work, Liem instilled his political thoughts by inviting the Chinese peranakans to join the Indonesian nation through the party he formed and the roles he played in various delegations to fight for Indonesian independence.
