Abstract

Penelitian ini menjelaskan tentang perubahan sosial dalam hal kondisi sosial ekonomi masyarakat Banten pada masa pendudukan Jepang pada saat awal masa pendudukannya hingga menjelang berakhirnya kekuasaannya di Indonesia khususnya di wilayah Banten. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Historis dengan studi kepustakaan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mengumpulkan sumber-sumber yang dinilai relevan. Salah satu sumber yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah buku Banten dalam Pergumulan Sejarah dan Catatan Masa Lalu Banten. Selain itu peneliti juga menggunakan berbagai sumber lainnya seperti jurnal maupun artikel yang berkaitan dengan pembahasan yang dilakukan dalam penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa kondisi sosial ekonomi serta kehidupan sosial ekonomi masyarakat di Banten pada masa pendudukan Jepang mengalami perubahan setelah Jepang menjalankan pemerintahan militernya di seluruh wilayah Indonesia, kususnya di Banten. Kondisi sosial ekonomi masyarakat banyak yang tidak menyukai akan pemerintahan yang baru yaitu pemerintahan pendudukan Jepang. Masyarakat merasa seperti kembali mengalami penjajahan, baik eksploitasi sumber daya alam maupun eksploitasi sumber daya manusia melalui pengerahan para pekerja paksanya yaitu para Romusha. Masyarakat Banten sendiri nampaknya belum banyak mengetahui tentang keberadaan nasionalisme antar sesama bangsa, hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan engganya rakyat membantu sesama saudaranya yang bekerja sebagai tenaga kerja paksa, mereka malah menganggap mereka-mereka yang bekerja itu di datangkan dari bangsa lain, yang sebenarnya tidak demikian. Selain itu keadaan masyarakat Banten juga mengalami berbagai macam konflik di dalam masyarakatnya akibat enggan bergabung dengan pemerintahan pusat menjelang. This study describes social changes in term of the socio-economic conditions of the people of Banten during the Japanese occupation at the beginning of the occupation until the end of their reign in Indonesia, especially in the Banten area. This research uses historical approach with literature study. Data collection is done by collecting sources that are considered relevant. One of the sources used in this research is the book Banten in the Struggle of History and Records of the Past of Banten. In addition, researchers also use various other sources such as journals and articles related to the discussions carried out in the study. The results of this study indicate that the socio-economic conditions and socio-economic life of the people in Banten during the Japanese occupation underwent a changed after Japan carried out its military administration throughout Indonesia, especially in Banten. The socio-economic conditions of many people do not like the new goverment, namely the Japanese occupation government. The community feels like they are experiencing colonialism again, both exploitation of natural resources and exploitation of human resources through the deployment of forced laborers, namely the Romusha. The people of Banten themselves do not seem to know much about the existence of nationalism among their fellow nations, this is evidenced by the reluctance of the people to help their fellow brothers and sisters who work as forced laborers, they even think that those who work are imported from other nations, which is not the case. In addition, the condition of the people of Banten also experienced various kinds of conflicts in their community due to their reluctance to join the central goverment.
