Abstract

ALMIZAN SAPUTRA, ICMI dan Pers Islam: Proses Terbentuknya Surat Kabar Harian Republika Sebagai Perwajahan Media Islam di Era Orde Baru (1990-1998). Skripsi. Jakarta: Program Studi Pendidikan Sejarah, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, 2022. Skripsi ini mengkaji tentang ICMI dan Pers Islam: Proses Terbentuknya Surat Kabar Harian Republika Sebagai Perwajahan Media Islam di Era Orde Baru (1990-1998). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan proses kelahiran ICMI dan terbitnya surat kabar harian Republika di masa Orde Baru sebagai sebuah konskuensi logis atas kesediaan Orde Baru menerima konsep Islam kultural yang dijalankan oleh para cendekiawan Muslim. Metode yang digunakan untuk kajian penelitian ini adalah metode historis, yang terdiri dari pengumpulan sumber (heuristik), kritik sumber (verifikasi), interpretasi dan historiografi. Penelitian ini ditulis dalam bentuk deskritif-naratif, dengan menjelaskan tentang ICMI dan Republika dari rentang waktu 1990 sampai dengan 1998 yang dijelaskan secara naratif. Hasil penulisan skripsi ini menunjukan bahwa ICMI dan Republika menjadi variabel yang tidak dapat dipisahkan. Kelahiran ICMI di akhir tahun 1990 menjadi sebuah implementasi atas perubahan sikap pemerintah Orde Baru terhadap umat Islam. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dengan kesediaan Presiden Soeharto dalam mengakomodasi kelahiran ICMI. Dalam perkembangannya, ICMI memiliki program kerja yang membutuhkan Republika sebagai sebuah media untuk menjadi tempat publikasi opini dan pemikiran ICMI kepada kelompok strategis dalam masyarakat serta menyebarkan informasi dalam rangka mencerdaskan umat. Kelahiran Republika sebagai media Islami di Orde Baru mengisyaratkan adanya kebutuhan masyarakat atas pers Islam yang tidak dogmatis dan terafiliasi oleh partai politik. Di masa Orde Baru, Pers bernuansa Islam tidak dapat mengembangkan potensi jurnalistik yang baik, hal tersebut disebabkan pers Islam tidak dapat menyeimbangkan kepentingan pembaca dan kepentingan pers dengan pemerintah Orde Baru serta eksistensi kekuatan persseperti Kompas di konstelasi pers nasional. This thesis examines ICMI and the Islamic Press: The Forming Process of the Republika Daily Newspaper as the Face of Islamic Media in the New Order Era (1990-1998). This study aims to explain the process of the birth of ICMI and the publication of the daily newspaper Republika during the New Order as a logical consequence of the New Order's willingness to accept the concept of cultural Islam which was carried out by Muslim scholars. The method used for this research study is the historical method, which consists of source collection (heuristics), source criticism (verification), interpretation and historiography. This research is written in descriptive-narrative form, explaining about ICMI and Republika from 1990 to 1998 which is explained in a narrative manner. The result of writing this thesis shows that ICMI and Republika are inseparable variables. The birth of ICMI in the late 1990s became an implementation of the change in the attitude of the New Order government towards Muslims. This can be seen in President Soeharto's willingness to accommodate the birth of ICMI. In its development, ICMI has a work program that requires Republika as a medium to become a place for publication of ICMI's opinions and thoughts to strategic groups in society and to disseminate information in order to educate the people. The birth of Republika as an Islamic media in the New Order indicated the public's need for an Islamic press that was not dogmatic and affiliated with political parties. During the New Order era, the press with Islamic nuances could not develop good journalistic potential, this was because the Islamic press could not balance the interests of readers and the interests of the press with the New Order government and the existence of press powers such as Kompas in the national press constellation Keywords: ICMI, New Order, Islamic Press, Republika
