Abstract

Needs Analysis dalam penelitian ini berupaya untuk mengidentifikasi kompetensi membaca pada teks berbahasa Inggris dalam konteks akademik di Program Studi Pendidikan Sejarah UNJ. Penelitian ini menggunakan Target Situation Analysis (TSA) sebagai jenis pendekatan dari needs analysis ini. Sementara instrument yang dipakai adalah jenis angket, analisis dokumen, dan wawancara. Patokan yang dipakai sebagai identifikasi kompetensi adalah dari kompetensi membaca fundalemtal dari Sadoski (2004) dan Barrett’s cognitive and affective dimension of reading comprehension (1968). Langkah pertama dalam penganalisaan data adalah dengan menentukan fokus mata kuliah yang menajdi objek dari penelitian ini terlebih dahulu. List pertanyaan untuk memandu bacaan yang direferesikan juga dianalisa. Terakhir, data yang telah diperoleh dielaborasikan dengan data wawancara dan argument dari data sekunder berupa buku-buku terkait topik yang ada pada temuan data. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa mengambil kesimpulan atas sebab-akibat dan ide pokok bacaan menjadi kompetensi yang paling dibutuhkan dalam membaca teks berbahasa Inggris. Kompetensi tersebut menjadi pertimbangan utama untuk menopang kemampuan interpretasi sejarah yang menjadi ciri dari pembelajaran sejarah di perguruan tinggi ************ Needs analysis in this research attempts to identify the competences of English reading text in History Education Study Program of UNJ academic context. It uses Target Situation Analysis (TSA) as the approach of the needs analysis. Meanwhile, the instruments are questionnaires, document analysis, and interview. The identification of reading competences uses the fundamental reading competences by Sadoski (2004) and Barrett’s cognitive and affective dimension of reading comprehension (1968). The first attempt of data analysis procedure is to determine the focus courses of this research object of study. Then the study program profile and the syllabus of the two focus courses as the main data are gathered by identifying the aims and basic competences. It was also analysed the handouts which contains guiding question list for the reading handouts. At last, the data will be elaborated by interview and the secondary data sourced from books about the related findings topic. The result shows that inferring cause and effect relationship and inferring main ideas are the two most needed English reading competences in History Education Study Program. They are considered as the base of historical interpretation, the most identical competence in studying history in college.
